Tina Datta was born on 27 November 1991 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Raised in a middle-class family, she completed her schooling at St. Paul’s Boarding & Day School in Kolkata and graduated from the University of Kolkata. From a young age she set her sights on a career in acting and worked in Bengali, Hindi and English language projects as she learned to perform across those languages.

Datta’s screen journey began in childhood. At about five years old she auditioned for and won a role on the television production Sister Nivedita through a family connection to the industry. Around age six she appeared as a child artist in the Bengali film Pita Mata Santan, and at twelve she had a role in the film Chokher Bali. In 2005, when she was 14, she made her debut in Hindi cinema playing Young Lalita in Parineeta. Following these early appearances she continued to take small roles in both Bengali and Hindi films and television.

Her breakthrough on national television came with the Hindi serial Uttaran, which she was part of from 2009 to 2015.
