Tovino Thomas was born on 21 January 1989 in Irinjalakuda, Kerala. Raised in a Syro-Malabar Catholic family, he completed his schooling in Irinjalakuda and went on to earn a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore. Before entering films, Tovino worked briefly as a software engineer with Cognizant Technology Solutions in Chennai.

After leaving his corporate job, Tovino moved into modelling and appeared in a number of advertisements, including campaigns for a water theme park and a hair oil brand. He also acted in the short film Grisaille in 2011 and worked as an assistant director on the 2012 Malayalam feature Theevram.
