Raised in the city she calls home, she attended Vidya Mandir High School before going on to study at Gokhale College in Mumbai. Raut entered the public eye as a teenager when she won the Femina Look of the Year title at Femina Miss India in 1996. That same year she was among the top 15 contestants at the Elite Model Look contest in Nice, France, an early international recognition that helped launch her runway career.
