Umar Riaz was born on 1 January 1991 in Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Raised in a middle-class family, he completed his schooling at Delhi Public School in Jammu before pursuing medical studies at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he earned his MBBS and later a Master of Surgery.

He comes from a family with public and entertainment links. His father, Riaz Ahmed Choudhary, served as a politician and was a special secretary to the government of Jammu and Kashmir (retired). His mother is Shabnam Naz. Umar is the elder brother of model and actor Asim Riaz and has a sister, Mahvish Choudhary, who works in the department of education.

Career

Umar trained and practised as a surgeon. After completing his MBBS and MS, he joined Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai as a clinical assistant in 2018. By 2020 he was working as a Senior Registrar in General Surgery.
