Early life and backgroundUmer Aalam was born in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. He completed part of his early higher education in Islamabad, studying engineering at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology before switching to a BBA. He also attended Indus Group of Colleges in Rawalpindi. He grew up taking part in school and college theatre, and developed an early interest in acting that guided his later career choices.
Career
Aalam began his professional journey in theatre. He worked with several Islamabad-based theatre groups, including KopyKats Productions, Theatre Wallay, and Blind Bachelors Production. His stage work brought him praise, notably for a performance in a production of Siachen by Anwar Maqsood.
He transitioned to on-screen work with a film debut in Parchi (2018), where he appeared in a small role. The same year he acted in a short film titled Dia, portraying a character named Asad. In 2019 he joined Citrus Talent in Karachi and expanded his work as both a model and actor. That year he appeared as a truck driver in the film Chhalawa and took on supporting roles in television, including Meri Shaadi Karwao on Play TV and a part in the Hum TV series Khaas.
Over the following years Aalam moved between dramas, films and reality television. On television he was seen in series such as Raqs-e-Bismil, where he played Ahmed, Pehli Si Muhabbat as Nadeem, and several other serials including Koyal, Berukhi, Shehnai and Nehar. On the big screen he took on more prominent character parts, appearing in Carma (2022) in a negative role that drew positive attention, and later in Taxali (2023). In 2023 he portrayed Saqlain Mushtaq in the biopic Rawalpindi Express, based on the life of Shoaib Akhtar.
Reality television raised his public profile further. Aalam took part in season 1 of Tamasha on ARY Digital and was announced the winner on 1 October 2022. He has described the victory as a breakthrough that accelerated recognition of his work. He also competed in The Ultimate Muqabla Season 2 in 2023. Beyond competition shows, he hosted the live transmission for Masala TV’s 17th anniversary in 2023 and appeared as host of the Eid special gaming show Khel Kay Jeet on Express Entertainment.
Aalam has expanded his presence online with a YouTube channel launched in October 2022 under his name, where he shares vlogs related to his Tamasha experience. As of 2023, the channel had over 7.26K subscribers. He has appeared as a guest on talk programming such as The Night Show with Ayaz Samoo and has modeled on magazine covers, including Spotlight Pakistan and Weekend.
