Urfi Javed was born on 15 October 1996 in Lucknow. Raised in a conservative household, she has described growing up under patriarchal restrictions that limited the freedoms of girls in her family. She attended City Montessori School in Lucknow and later studied at Amity University, Lucknow, graduating in Mass Communication.

Urfi has said that harsh family conflicts prompted her to leave home as a teenager. According to her account, she ran away to Delhi at 17 with two of her sisters and supported herself through tuitions and work at a call centre. During this period she also worked as an assistant to a fashion designer before moving to Mumbai to pursue acting.
