She completed her schooling at Lady Irwin Senior Secondary School and went on to study at Miranda House, University of Delhi, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Career
Sharma entered the Indian Administrative Service after clearing the UPSC examination in 1985 and was allotted the Rajasthan cadre.
