Early life and background

Utkarsh Sharma was born on 22 May 1994 in Mumbai, India. Raised in a family connected to filmmaking, he grew up in the same city that remains his hometown. He attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai before moving to the United States for higher education. Utkarsh studied at Chapman University, where he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production and Direction, and also trained in method acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.

Career

Utkarsh made his film debut as a child actor in the 2001 period drama Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, appearing as Charanjeet Singh, commonly referred to as "Jeete." The role brought him early recognition and remains one of the performances he is most associated with.

While studying at Chapman University, Utkarsh worked behind the camera on student and short-film projects. He wrote and directed the short film Purpose (2015) and was credited as a writer on the short Still Life (2016). After returning to acting in adult roles, he made his debut as a lead actor in the 2018 film Genius, in which he played Vasudev Shastri.

He later reprised his childhood role of Charanjeet Singh "Jeete" in the 2023 film Gadar 2, returning to the character that marked his first screen appearance.
