Vaibhav Raj Gupta was born on 19 January 1991 in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a family with artistic roots, he spent his school years in Sitapur and later moved to Mumbai to pursue work in the performing arts. He attended Sacred Heart Inter College and Sumitra Inter College in Sitapur before studying at the School of Broadcasting and Communication in Mumbai, where he completed a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication.

As a young man he showed more interest in creative pursuits than conventional studies. He took part in a local modelling contest, Mr Sitapur, in 2007, which helped prompt his move to Mumbai. Early experiences in the city included a period distributing pamphlets for an NGO while attending theatre rehearsals in the evenings. He joined a theatre group in 2009 and trained there for around seven years, also teaching himself mime and performing across India.

Gupta’s screen career began with short films and television before moving into feature films and high-profile web series.
