Vaibhav Suryavanshi Biography

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is an Indian left-handed batsman from Tajpur, Samastipur, Bihar. Rising rapidly through age-group cricket, he debuted for Bihar in the

Early life and background

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on 27 March 2011 in Tajpur, Samastipur, Bihar. He grew up in a farming household; his father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, supported his early cricketing interest by creating a small practice area at home and encouraging neighborhood children to bowl to him. From very young ages he practised with a plastic ball and attracted attention for his natural hitting ability.

His first structured coaching came in Samastipur and later in Patna, where he trained under coaches including Brijesh and former Ranji player Manish Ojha. Because local infrastructure was limited, his father frequently took him to nearby cities for better practice facilities.

Career

Vaibhav progressed quickly through age-group cricket. As a child he was selected for Under-16 trials and stood out despite being younger than most peers. He excelled in inter-district and state tournaments: at the Heman Trophy he finished as Bihar’s top scorer, compiling 800 runs in eight matches, and in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy he scored 393 runs from five matches at an average above 78.

He represented India B in Under-19 matches during a Quadrangular Under-19 series in 2023, posting several notable scores. Strong performances at the Under-23 camp helped him earn selection to Bihar’s Ranji Trophy squad, making him one of the youngest players to appear in India’s premier domestic first-class competition. Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai on 5 January 2024 in Patna. He made his T20 debut for Bihar on 23 November 2024 against Rajasthan.

In 2024 he attended trials for the Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals. During those trials the team’s batting coach set him a hard match scenario, which Vaibhav met by hitting multiple sixes in the allotted over. At the 2025 IPL auction in Jeddah, Rajasthan Royals acquired him; his auction price is recorded as Rs. 1.10 crore.

Vaibhav made an immediate impact in the IPL. In his debut match in April 2025 against the Lucknow Super Giants he began with a six off the first ball he faced and finished the innings with 34 from 20 balls. Later that month he produced an explosive innings against the Gujarat Titans, reaching a hundred in just 35 balls. At 14 years old he became the youngest batter to score an IPL century and set additional age-related records for the tournament and the T20 format.

Public profile

Vaibhav bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox. He lists Brian Lara and Virat Kohli among his cricketing influences, and he has said he studies Lara’s batting and temperament. Known for energetic shotmaking, he has attracted media attention both for performances and for questions about his age, which were publicly addressed by his family.

Off the field, he enjoys swimming. His immediate family includes his father Sanjiv and his grandmother Usha Singh. His father has spoken publicly about the sacrifices the family made to support Vaibhav’s cricketing pathway, including selling farmland to cover expenses.

Latest updates

In the 2025 IPL season Vaibhav continued to generate headlines with match-winning fireworks and milestones achieved at a remarkably young age. Following his century, the chief minister of Bihar announced a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh in recognition of his performance. He was also gifted a Mercedes-Benz in April 2025.

Vaibhav remains part of Bihar’s domestic setup and is listed with Rajasthan Royals for the IPL. As he develops, his trajectory will be followed closely by selectors and fans, given his rapid progression through youth cricket into professional ranks.
