Early life and background
Vani Tripathi Tikoo was born on 4 July 1979 in New Delhi, India. She grew up in the city where she completed her school education at Holy Child Senior Secondary School and later pursued a bachelor's degree in political science at Hindu College, University of Delhi. To train as an actor she earned a diploma in acting from the Living Theatre Academy of Drama in New Delhi.

Career
Vani began working in professional theatre and teaching at the National School of Drama's theatre in New Delhi in 1997, a role she continued until 2000. That same year she made her screen debut in the 1997 film Nel profondo paese straniero, credited as Prostituta Indiana, and went on to appear in a string of Hindi film roles over the following decade.

Her film work includes Dushman (1998), Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Chalte Chalte (2003), Inteqam: The Perfect Game (2004) and Dil Se Pooch… Kidhar Jaana Hai (2006). On stage she has worked with noted directors such as Barry John, Maya Rao and Ebrahim Alkazi, and in cinema she has collaborated with filmmakers including Mahesh Bhatt, Tanuja Chandra and Kundan Shah.

Alongside acting, Vani has been active in public life. She served as national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and has been a visible campaigner and participant in political rallies and programmes that promote women’s participation in politics. In January 2015 she was named to the Board of the Central Board of Film Certification. That same year she took on a leadership role at Drishya Entertainment as director; the organisation provides business and management consultancy services.

Vani has also worked on documentary material: in 2017 she produced a documentary dealing with farmers’ suicides in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra.
