Vasanth Kumar Ravi was born on 18 April 1990 in Chennai and grew up in the city. He completed his schooling in Chennai and went on to study medicine at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, where he earned an MBBS. He later pursued a master’s degree in healthcare management at Alliance Manchester Business School in Manchester, England.

While training as a doctor he developed an interest in acting. After finishing his medical internship he enrolled at Anupam Kher’s acting school in Mumbai and later joined an acting course associated with Rajiv Menon and the theatre group Koothu-P-Pattarai. Family expectations led him to take up further studies in the UK, but after a return to India he began to move into film work.

Career

Vasanth Ravi made his feature film debut in 2017 with the Tamil drama Taramani, playing the character Prabhunath. His performance earned multiple newcomer awards and marked his transition from medicine into cinema. Following Taramani, he appeared in the Tamil films Rocky (2021), Asvins (2023), Jailer (2023), and Weapon (2023).

His role in Rocky was recognized with a Santosham Award for Best Actor Male in 2022. Earlier accolades for his debut included a Vikatan Award for Best Debut Actor in 2017, the Filmfare Award South in 2018, a Vijay TV Award for Best Debut Actor in 2018, and a SIIMA Best Debut Actor award in 2018.
