Early life and background

Vichithra Williams was born on 23 December 1973 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She grew up in Chennai and holds Indian nationality. Her father was Williams, an actor who was murdered in September 2011, and her mother is Mary Vasantha. Vichithra has two sisters and a brother.

She pursued higher education in psychotherapy and counselling, earning a master’s qualification in that field. Trained in Bharatanatyam, she is also an accomplished horse rider and lists dancing among her hobbies.

Career

Vichithra began her film career in 1992, debuting in both Tamil and Malayalam cinema with roles credited as Sridevi. Over the 1990s she became known for supporting roles in a range of South Indian films. Notable Tamil films include Rasigan (1994), Muthu (1995) and the multi-starrer Suyamvaram (1999). In Telugu cinema she played Chitra in the 1995 action film Pokiri Raja, and in Kannada she appeared as Vichithra in King (1998).

Her Malayalam film work includes Rudraksham (1994), Azhakiya Ravanan (1996), Charlie Chaplin (1999) and Gandharva Rathri (2000). On television she took the lead in the mid-1990s Tamil show Maami Chinna Maami and later worked on several serials across languages. She was cast as Malini Nambiar in the 2021 Mazhavil Manorama show Kalyani, appeared as Mukkotamma in ETV’s 2022 Telugu drama Geetha Govindam, and played Rajashri in Zee Tamil’s 2022 series Karthigai Deepam.

Beyond acting, Vichithra owns a company called Jaya Kids & Sons. Her professional activities also include appearances on reality television: in 2023 she was a contestant on the Tamil reality show Bigg Boss season 7 on Star Vijay (streamed on Disney+ Hotstar), and she took part in Star Vijay’s Cooku with Comali Season 4 the same year.
