Vidyullekha Raman was born on 4 November 1991 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in the city she still calls home, she completed her schooling at Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School and M.CTM. Chidambaram Chettyar International School in Mylapore before attending M.O.P. Vaishnav College in Chennai. She holds a degree in Visual Communication.

Her father is actor and writer Mohan Raman. A cousin, Gitanjali, is married to director Selvaraghavan.
