Vijay Deverakonda Biography

Vijay Deverakonda is an Indian actor and film producer known for his work in Telugu cinema. Rising to prominence with Arjun Reddy (2017), he has since been

Early life and background

Deverakonda Vijay Sai was born on 9 May 1989 in Achampet, Telangana. He grew up in a family with roots in farming and spent his childhood in the region that is now part of Mahbubnagar district. His father, Govardhana Rao Deverakonda, worked as a television serial director and his mother, Madhavi Deverakonda, has been involved in soft-skill and personality-development training. Vijay attended Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School in Puttaparthi and later studied at Little Flower Junior College in Hyderabad. He graduated from Badruka College of Commerce and Arts with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

As a teen he was shy, but college theatre work — including playing Sherlock Holmes — helped shape his interest in acting. After college he joined the theatre group Sutradhar and began pursuing performance professionally.

Career

Vijay made his film acting debut in the Telugu ensemble Nuvvila (2011), in which he played the role of Vishnu. Early film work included Life Is Beautiful (2012), which did not perform well, followed by supporting and lead roles in films such as Yevade Subramanyam (2015), Pelli Choopulu (2016), and Dwaraka (2017).

His breakthrough came with Arjun Reddy (2017), a role that brought him widespread attention and a Filmfare Awards South Best Actor trophy. He followed that success with a series of commercially and critically noticed Telugu films: Geetha Govindam (2018), Taxiwaala (2018), Dear Comrade (2019), and World Famous Lover (2020). He has also worked outside Telugu cinema: his Tamil lead debut was NOTA (2018) and his first Hindi film was Liger (2022).

Beyond acting, Vijay moved into production, producing the Telugu film Meeku Maathrame Cheptha (2019) under his banner King of the Hill Entertainment. He has directed as well, creating the Telugu short film Madam Meerena in 2016. In 2018 he launched a clothing label called Rowdy, which later collaborated with a major e-commerce fashion platform.

Public profile

Vijay’s screen presence and outspoken personality have made him a highly visible figure in Indian entertainment. Physically, he is listed at approximately 180 cm (5'11") tall, with brown hair and eyes. He has been recognized with awards including a Nandi Special Jury Award for Yevade Subramanyam, a Filmfare Award South for Arjun Reddy, and several awards in 2019 for his work in Geetha Govindam.

He has been open about aspects of his personal journey: early struggles after college, a period of financial difficulty, and the discipline he applied in pursuing acting. He has said his father was an important influence and supporter as Vijay built a career in film.

Vijay has been one of India’s most-searched celebrities, appearing on national lists such as Google’s Most Searched Celebrities for 2019 and rankings of desirable public personalities. He is known for embracing a casual, sometimes confrontational public style; that approach has brought both intense fan support and controversial moments. Notable public controversies include reactions to social-media comments and a song he performed for a film soundtrack that was later withdrawn from public platforms.

Personal life

Vijay is married to actress Rashmika Mandanna; the available information lists their marriage taking place on 26 February 2026 in Udaipur, Rajasthan. He comes from a family with one younger brother, Anand Deverakonda, who is also an actor.

Away from film, he has interests in singing and in fashion entrepreneurship. He has stated that singing intrigued him from childhood and he has performed vocally for film music. His vehicle collection reported in public profiles includes models from several premium manufacturers, and he owns a bungalow in Hyderabad.

Latest updates

Recent public developments reported include legal and regulatory matters arising from statements and endorsements tied to his public appearances and film promotions. In mid-2025 an FIR was filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Telangana after remarks he made while promoting a film; he issued an apology. In July 2025 he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with investigations into promotion of alleged online betting apps; he attended questioning in August 2025 and provided documentation concerning the gaming-app endorsement under scrutiny.

Vijay remains active in film as an actor and producer, continuing to draw attention both for his on-screen work and his public persona.
