Vijay Kumar Dogra was born on 9 May and raised in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, though he spent significant time growing up in Delhi. He completed his schooling at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam Senior Secondary School in Delhi, finishing class 12 in commerce. He went on to study commerce at Motilal Nehru College, New Delhi, earning a BCom degree. Dogra also pursued formal theatre training by completing a course at the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts in 2014.

Dogra has developed a diverse career across stage and screen. He started out in theatre, performing in Hindi plays and traditional ramleelas, and has worked as a writer and director for stage productions.
