Early life and backgroundVijay Sharma was born on 19 July 1973 in Kawardha, Kabirdham, in what is today the state of Chhattisgarh. Raised in a family that identifies with Hinduism and the Brahmin caste, he completed schooling in Kawardha and later pursued higher education at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University in Raipur and Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University in Bhopal. His academic record includes a Bachelor of Science (1994), an MSc in Physics (1996), and further qualifications in computer applications and English.
Before entering full-time politics, Sharma worked in education and the private sector. Between 1996 and 1998 he served as a lecturer at several colleges in Raipur, including an engineering college. He also held operator roles at pager and telecom organisations in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Sharma’s political activity began while he was a student. He was involved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and other student organisations in the early 1990s, establishing a local group and attending national student council events.
