Early life and background
Vijayveer Sidhu was born on 21 June 2002 in Mansa, Punjab. He and his identical twin brother Udhayveer grew up in a family that later moved to Chandigarh to support their shooting careers. The family relocated to Sector 51 in Chandigarh in 2015 to provide better access to training facilities. Vijayveer attended St. Stephen School in Chandigarh and went on to graduate from D.A.V. College, Chandigarh.

He began shooting at age eight, first taking part in a summer camp at St. Xavier’s School in Mansa. The early start and family support, including coaching under D. S. Chandel, set the stage for his progression through junior international events.

Career
Vijayveer is a sports shooter who competes primarily in 25 m rapid-fire pistol and related pistol events. He emerged on the international scene as a junior, winning gold at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl in 2018 and at junior world championship events in the same year. He and his brother have recounted instances of winning with borrowed pistols in junior competitions, highlighting their adaptability early in their careers.

Across 2019–2022 Vijayveer collected medals at continental and world-level junior and senior competitions. His podium results include medals at the ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl, the World Championships in Changwon and Lima, and the Asian Championships. At national level he has been a top contender: in November 2021 he edged out his twin by a single point to take gold in the junior men’s 25 m pistol at the 64th National Shooting Championship.

At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Vijayveer was part of India’s men’s 25 m rapid-fire pistol team that won a bronze medal alongside teammates Adarsh Singh and Anish Bhanwala. Individually at those Games he reached the final in the 25 m rapid-fire pistol event and finished fourth.

A key milestone came in January 2024 when Vijayveer earned an Olympic quota place for India in the 25 m rapid-fire pistol by winning silver at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jakarta. Securing that quota marked a major step toward his long-held aim of competing at the Paris Olympics.

Vijayveer competes under the nickname “Robby.” He is known for his focus and disciplined upbringing; in interviews he and his brother have described a childhood with limited distractions and strong emphasis on training and studies. Vijayveer has cited Indian shooter Gagan Narang as an inspiration.
