Vinod Chaudhary was born on 6 April 1955 in Laheriasarai, Darbhanga, Bihar. He came from a family with a political background: his father, Umakant Chaudhary, was a founder member of the Samta Party. Raised in the Mithila region, Chaudhary completed advanced studies, holding an MA and a Ph.D., and maintained strong ties to his hometown of Vishanpur, Darbhanga.

Career

Chaudhary began his professional life in education, working as a teacher. Even as an academic, he remained deeply involved in social and political activism. From his college years he participated in multiple student movements across Bihar and later became a prominent voice in teacher-led campaigns. At Lalit Narayan Mithila University in Darbhanga he helped organize and lead the teachers’ movement, reflecting a lifelong engagement with issues affecting educators and local communities.

In May 2008 Chaudhary formally entered party politics by joining Janata Dal United (JDU). His political work included efforts to assist disadvantaged groups: he is described as having worked for the upliftment of Dalits and other backward communities and was known locally for helping poor and needy people.
