Early life and background

Vinoth Kishan was born on 28 July 1989 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in the city that would later become the primary base for his acting career, he completed his schooling at Loyola Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam. He is Indian by nationality and, as of 2023, is 34 years old. Vinoth is unmarried and lists Chennai as his hometown.

Career

Vinoth entered films as a child actor, making his debut in the Tamil film Nandha (2001) where he played the young version of the title character. Over the years he transitioned into supporting and character roles across Tamil cinema, and also has credits in Malayalam and Telugu films.

A notable turning point came with his performance in Naan Mahaan Alla (2010), in which he played an antagonist. That role brought him wide recognition and led to a Best Villain award at the Edison Awards. To prepare for the physical demands of the part he trained for three months under fight choreographer Mahendran. His work in Vidiyum Munn (2013) required a disciplined physical approach as well; for the role of Chinnayyah he practiced reducing his blinking on instruction from the director.

Vinoth continued to build a varied filmography with roles in movies such as Yaazh (2017), Imaikkaa Nodigal (2018) and Adavi (2020). In 2011 he appeared in the Malayalam film Kanakompathu, and in 2012 he was seen in the Telugu film Genius as Jeeva. He has also worked in short films and web series; his performance as Selvam, a blind man, in Andhaghaaram (2020) was especially well received and earned him a Best Actor–Special Mention at the Behindwoods Gold Icons Awards as well as a nomination at the AV Cinema Awards.

On streaming platforms he has been part of ZEE5 projects including Fingertip (2019) and Fingertip season 2 (2022), and he appeared as Ananth in the ZEE5 series Anantham (2022). In 2023 he featured in the SonyLIV web series Story Of Things. His television credits include participating in the dance reality show Dance Jodi Dance; he took part in the program on Zee Tamil, appearing in the season that paired celebrity contestants with choreographers.
