Early life and backgroundViraj Ghelani was born in 1993 and raised in South Borivali, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He comes from a family of educators — both of his parents worked as school teachers — and has a younger brother, Jayraj Ghelani, who pursued a career in professional football. Ethnically, he is Gujarati.
Viraj attended several colleges in Mumbai. He completed a diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Thakur College of Science and Commerce. He also spent time at Abhinav Hi-Tech College of Engineering and enrolled at NMIMS and another Mumbai college, but left some of those courses before finishing. Early on he struggled with academics and has said he was once expelled from school.

Viraj’s interest in performance became visible during his college days, when a comic act at a college event — in which he impersonated a well-known television personality — drew strong audience reaction. He began performing at campus events and hosting shows, and later took on corporate roles in HR and sales before deciding to pursue entertainment full time.
He started making short comic videos on apps such as Dubsmash and Snapchat. An early career boost came when an online outlet listed him among notable Indian creators to follow on Snapchat. That visibility opened doors with digital platforms: he shared his portfolio with sites including TVF and FilterCopy, and went on to manage the Snapchat account for FilterCopy. He then worked as a content creator for FilterCopy and its associated channels Dice Media and Gobble, and has also been on the staff of Pocket Aces Pictures Pvt. Ltd.
On-screen, Viraj made his web-series acting debut in 2017 with an appearance in a Dice Media episode of 2By3 titled “Humse Na Ho Paayega,” playing the character Veer. He later worked on Dice Media productions in other capacities, including as assistant art director on Little Things (2016), and acted in series such as Adulting (2018), Fairy Lights (2019), What the Folks (2019), and Firsts (2020).
