Virendra Saxena was born on 25 November 1960 in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in Mathura and completed his higher education at Agra University, graduating before beginning his career in the performing arts. Saxena trained in acting at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, and he began his professional life as a theatre artist in Delhi.

Career

Saxena’s film debut came in 1975 with Uljhan. Over the decades that followed he built a varied portfolio that spans mainstream Hindi cinema, English-language films, television and short films. In the early part of his screen career he was seen on television in the series Raag Darbari (1986–1987), and he also appeared in a memorable cameo as a street singer in the song “Tu Meri Zindagi Hai” in the 1990 film Aashiqui.

His on-screen work includes roles in English-language projects such as In Custody (1993), Cotton Mary (1999) and White Rainbow (2004). Saxena has also taken part in smaller-format projects, appearing in short films including The Mechanic (2013) and The Idiot (2017).
