Vivek Bali was born on 14 August 1991 in Jammu and Kashmir. Raised in a family that includes his father Bal Krishan Bali, mother Urmila Bali and one brother, he completed his schooling at a private school in Jammu and Kashmir and went on to graduate from college. He is a Hindu and identifies with the Kashmiri Pandit community. He is fluent in Hindi, English and Kashmiri.

Career

Bali’s political engagement began during his undergraduate years, when he was active as a social activist and a student union leader. He first entered formal party politics in 2018 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Within the party he was given responsibilities that included the District Media Secretary role for Anantnag and a post as Youth Vice President of the Kashmir Displaced District.

In 2021 he left the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined Janata Dal United (JDU). The party assigned him the role of state secretary, and he was subsequently elevated to the position of State General Secretary. In these roles he has focused on grassroots outreach, travelling to remote areas to listen to citizens’ concerns and working to ensure those issues are raised within his party and addressed where possible.
