Vivek Ganapathy Ramaswamy was born on August 9, 1985, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Raised by Indian immigrant parents, he grew up in a family with ties to Kerala, India, and spent portions of his childhood visiting relatives there. He attended St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he graduated as class valedictorian and was nationally ranked as a junior tennis player.

Ramaswamy went on to Harvard College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, summa cum laude, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
