VJ Sunny Biography

VJ Sunny (born Arun Reddy) is an Indian video jockey and actor from Khammam, Telangana, best known for winning Bigg Boss Telugu 5. He made his acting debut

Early life and background

Arun Reddy, who is professionally known as VJ Sunny, was born on 17 August 1989 in Khammam, Telangana. Raised in a family that included his father Venkateshwarulu, his mother Kalavathi, and a sister named Rajitha Devi, Sunny grew up with a clear ambition to pursue acting. He completed his schooling at St. Mary's College in Yousufguda, Hyderabad, and earned a B.Com degree from Osmania University. From an early age he was active in theatre; a college production titled Allaudin became notably popular and helped shape his interest in performance.

Career

Sunny began his media journey as a television host. After graduation he worked on the TV show Just For Men and later joined a news channel where he covered page 3 and lifestyle stories. Despite this start in journalism, he continued to aspire to be in front of the camera as an actor. His television acting debut came in 2017 with the Telugu serial Kalyana Vaibhogam, in which he played Suryadevara Jai Surya. That role brought him widespread recognition and several awards. Although he left the show before its completion, he explained that his contract had ended and he departed on good terms to pursue other opportunities.

Alongside serial work, Sunny took part in reality programming. In 2018 he appeared on the dance reality show Dance Jodi Dance with partner Samyukta. He was also involved in on-screen hosting and promotional work, including a television commercial for Bournvita Crunchy. Sunny has expressed a broader interest in entertainment: he can sing and play the guitar and has a background in theatre that informed his transition from journalism to acting.

In 2021 Sunny entered Bigg Boss Telugu season 5 as a contestant. He won that edition of the show on 20 December 2021, claiming the trophy in a finale that featured several high-profile industry guests. His victory included a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh and a residential plot valued at Rs. 25 lakh. Outside television, Sunny has also acted in films; his Telugu film credit includes Sakala Gunabhi Rama (2022).

Public profile

VJ Sunny has been a recurring presence in Hyderabad’s entertainment circles. He has been listed among Hyderabad Times Most Desirable Men in multiple years and received the Big Telangana Pride recognition from radio network Big FM in 2018. He has also taken part in celebrity sport initiatives such as the Darling Devils kabaddi team. A motorcycle and motorsport enthusiast, Sunny regularly participates in kart racing and enjoys motorcycle racing as a hobby.

Personal life

Sunny chose his screen name deliberately; he adopted the nickname Sunny from a bike he owned and preferred to be known professionally by that name rather than his birth name. He remains unmarried. His mother, Kalavathi, who once wanted to pursue acting herself, has been an important influence and supporter of his career choices. Sunny is also a dog lover and has a pet named Laura.

Latest updates

After his success on television, Sunny continued to expand his footprint in Telugu entertainment through film work and appearances. Notable recent entries in his career include the 2022 film Sakala Gunabhi Rama and the high-profile win on Bigg Boss Telugu 5, which raised his public visibility.
