Yeduguri Sandinti Sharmila Reddy was born on 17 December 1973 in Pulivendula, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. She is the daughter of Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, the fourteenth Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Vijayamma. Sharmila grew up in a political family; her brother is Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who later became the seventeenth Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. She holds Indian nationality and her hometown is Pulivendula.

Career

Sharmila is a politician who first drew major public attention in 2012 when she began campaigning on behalf of her brother’s party while he was in custody. That year she launched a long padayatra, Maro Praja Prasthanam, which covered thousands of kilometres and many constituencies across Andhra Pradesh. The walkathon lasted several months and established her as a prominent campaigner in the state.

She continued to lead public campaigns and roadshows in subsequent years. In 2019 she led an 11-day bus tour across Andhra Pradesh called Praja Theerpu, aimed at mobilising support ahead of the state assembly elections. In October 2022 Sharmila started a padayatra in Telangana named Praja Prasthanam, intending to meet people and raise local issues; she described plans to walk 12–15 km a day over the course of the year and to begin and end the march in Chevella.

Politically, she was associated with the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party from 2011 until 2024. In January 2024 she joined the Indian National Congress and merged her regional party, the YSR Telangana Party, into the Congress in the presence of national leaders.

In the 2024 election cycle she contested the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh but lost to Y. S. Avinash Reddy, a candidate from YSRCP.
