Raised in a Sikh family, he spent his childhood performing devotional songs in gurdwaras and learned to play the tabla. He attended Guru Nanak Public School in Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, and later studied BSc IT at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He also completed a graduation in music from Trinity College London.
Career
Honey Singh began releasing music in the mid-2000s. His first Punjabi music album as a singer was Peshi (2005), followed by the single Begani Naar (2006). Over the following years he built a reputation as a producer and performer in Punjabi music, collaborating with artists such as Diljit Dosanjh and contributing to successful albums and singles.
A turning point came with the 2011 releases that broadened his profile: he worked as music producer on regional projects and released International Villager in November 2011, a collection that featured tracks like Brown Rang, Angreji Beat and Gabru. Brown Rang in particular gained huge attention online. He also lent his voice to film songs and began to move into Bollywood playback work.
Honey Singh’s output includes a string of popular singles—Blue Eyes (2013), Desi Kalakaar (2014), Love Dose (2014), Dheere Dheere (2015) and Makhna (2018)—and high-profile film songs such as Party All Night (2013), Lungi Dance (2013), Chaar Botal Vodka (2014) and Sunny Sunny (2015).
