Early life and backgroundYugendran Vasudevan was born on 20 December 1976 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in a musical family, his father was Malaysia Vasudevan, a noted playback singer and actor of Malaysian origin. Yugendran began performing at a young age: trained as a mridangam player, he gave his first solo appearance at ten and frequently performed alongside his father on stage. Before his voice changed he even sang the female parts in duets during live shows. By his early teens he was singing solo at concerts in several countries, including Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States.

Yugendran’s professional life spans singing, acting, hosting and music direction. He entered the Tamil film music scene as a playback singer with early work such as the song credited from the 1987 film era and later contributed vocals to films including Saamy (the song “Kalayanamthan Katti”), Jananam (“Sudumvarai Neruppu”) and Goa (“Adida! Nayaandiya”).
His acting debut in Tamil cinema eventually came with Poovellam Un Vasam (2001), in which he played a supporting role. He went on to appear in a variety of Tamil films, among them Thirupaachi (2005) where he portrayed an inspector, Amirtham (2006), Mudhal Kanave (2007), Newtonin Moondram Vidhi (2009) and Vizha (2013). He also acted in the Singaporean film Kathalaanain (2012) and has taken part in television dramas across India, Singapore and Malaysia.
On television, Yugendran has been seen in long‑running Tamil serials such as Kolangal (2003), Megala (2007) and Idhayam (2009).
