Zoya Hussain was born on 1 October 1990 in Delhi, India. Raised in a middle-class family, she completed her schooling at a boarding school in Delhi and went on to graduate in Business Studies. From a young age she showed an inclination toward acting, took part in sports and learned to play musical instruments. While at college she was active in theatre, and after graduation she worked in commercial theatre before relocating to Mumbai to pursue a career in film.

Zoya is credited as an actor, writer and director. She made her feature-film debut in 2017 with Mukkabaaz, in which she played the character Sunaina Mishra.
