Zepp Health has pushed out a fresh firmware update for the Amazfit Helio Ring. This one, version 2.7.0.2, focuses mainly on sleep improvements, heart rate accuracy and battery behaviour during the night.
A smarter sleep tracking engine
The change-log is not entirely clear but there appear to have been some updates to the sleep tracking algorithm. Apparently, the entire sleep algorithm has been upgraded. Which should result in more accurate overnight and daily nap tracking. However the change-log does not explain exactly what’s different under the hood.
Also in the change-log is a note that the sleep monitoring feature is now automatically activated. Some some tweaks have been introduced there, as well.
Improved accuracy of heart rate readings and a few other things
Alongside sleep, heart rate tracking is getting a boost. The update introduces a revised heart rate algorithm, aimed at delivering more reliable data across both daytime and nighttime periods. For a product that leans heavily on heart rate to calculate metrics like readiness and recovery, any gains here should have a noticeable impact on daily scores.
Low battery warnings have also been tweaked. The ring can now remember if the battery dropped too low while the device was offline or disconnected. When it reconnects in the morning, a reminder will be shown to flag the issue. This should make it easier to catch battery drops that happen overnight when you’re not looking at your phone.
Finally, the company has thrown in the usual round of bug fixes, though nothing specific is listed. At just over 2MB in size, this is not a huge update.
The last firmware refresh for the device landed on December 1st and was largely focused on new workout support. That release introduced a Race Achievement Prediction tool, added sports modes like tennis and strength training, and included the option to stream heart rate to external devices. Unlike that fitness-centric update, this new one shifts the focus firmly back to sleep and health tracking fundamentals.
