Samsung started the rollout of the One UI 8 Watch to the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic earlier this month. The firmware introduced a handful of new features, visual enhancements, and much more. However, things appear to have taken a turn. Samsung may have paused the rollout of the update to the Galaxy Watch 4 following reports of multiple issues, like bad battery life and broken sensors.
Galaxy Watch 4 One UI 8 Watch update reportedly causing battery drain
Multiple users are reporting poor battery life since updating to the One UI Watch 8. Some users note that the watch drains its battery after around 12-15 hours. This apparently is significantly less than the previous best of 24-hours. Some reports note that the battery drain is much more extreme.
It’s reported that clearing the cache improved battery life, but it doesn’t seem to be solving the issue entirely. Besides battery life, there are reports of the always-on display not functioning.
The update may be breaking the wearable’s sensors
As SamMobile reports, a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic user on the Samsung Community forum claims that after updating to One UI 8 Watch, multiple sensors on the device stopped working. To that extent, they have shared a screenshot of Samsung’s diagnostic tool, which shows that the wrist detection, BIA, and ECG sensors are broken. Formatting the smartwatch and clearing the cache didn’t solve the issue, as per the user.
This means the health tracking features are unavailable. What’s worse is that the wearable can’t detect when it’s on the user’s wrist. However, the user mentions that placing the dial on the palm side of the wrist makes the sensors work. So, it’s not clear if this is a hardware or software issue.
Some users on the post said that they haven’t received the One UI 8 Watch update on their Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. This suggests that Samsung may have paused the rollout of the One UI 8 Watch. Though it’s the final update for the Galaxy Watch 4/Watch 4 Classic, Samsung may patch these problems.
