If you’re shopping for a new family sedan, you might be surprised to learn that the money set aside for a brand-new Toyota Camry can now buy something far more upscale on the used market. Thanks to rapid depreciation in the luxury segment, a refined midsize sedan with premium materials, sharp styling, and a far more exclusive badge has quietly slipped into mainstream pricing territory. For value-focused buyers, that shift changes the conversation entirely.
This particular used luxury sedan delivers the kind of comfort and polish most shoppers don’t expect at this price point. The cabin is hushed and well insulated, the ride prioritizes smoothness over stiffness, and the overall design feels more special than anything you’ll find in a typical mass-market option. Modern infotainment, advanced driver-assistance features, and confident on-road manners all help it feel like a genuine step up from conventional alternatives.
For drivers who want something different from the usual midsize sedan crowd, this is a rare opportunity. It offers premium appeal, strong road presence, and a more engaging ownership experience, without the premium new-car price. In today’s market, that makes it one of the smartest used luxury buys available.
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including the EPA, J.D. Power, RepairPal, CarEdge, and Edmunds.

Jaguar is a brand that has gone through some major changes lately, and they haven’t been all that well received. If you’re looking to capture the essence of what the brand was before its overhaul, a used Jaguar XF will definitely sate your cravings. Even better is the fact that if you buy a five-year-old model, you’ll be spending thousands less than you might on something like a brand new Toyota Camry.
2021 Jaguar XF average used price

Average used price
P250
$29,381
P300
$27,473
Back when it was new, a Jaguar XF would have cost you between $45,145 and $51,145, meaning that you’re saving yourself a ton of money going for a used model. The above table might be confusing, with the P250 featuring a lower average price than the P300, but this is because most people opted for the latter, with the low volume of P250s available skewing the figures.
We think that going for the P300 is a no-brainer. The additional power is great and the fact that there are more models to choose from allows you to shop around a little bit more. The R Dynamic SE is by far the most common trim as well, and its low price means that its the one that we’d look at grabbing, coming with the best kit that Jaguar has one offer.
Maintenance, warranties, and reliability
- Average annual maintenance costs: $1,066 (RepairPal)
- Average ten-year maintenance costs: $12,715 (CarEdge)
There are a lot of caveats to consider when picking up a Jaguar XF. First and foremost is reliability. Part of the reason that Jaguar had to rebrand is that their reputation for reliability was abysmal. However, the reality is that they are much more reliable than their reputation might suggest. We’re not saying that they’re top of their class, just that they’re about average instead of at the bottom of the stack. Maintenance costs are another thing to consider, with the XF not being an exceptionally cheap car to take care of.
There are some positives here, though. Jaguar offers a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty package and complimentary maintenance for the same period of time. While there will be no balance of these plans if you pick one up used, you can at least rest easy knowing that the model you’re after has been taken care of by professionals at Jaguar.

If you’re after something quick and comfortable, the Jag is a great choice

Unfortunately, Jaguar at some point decided that they would only offer the four-cylinder engine option in the XF, getting rid of the supercharged V-6. While this is a major bummer, the four-cylinder engine options are actually much better than you might expect. Along with a comfortable ride, the sedan is capable of drama in ways that only Jaguar can achieve.

Both the P250 and the P300 come equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. The P300 is obviously the more powerful of the two setups. Both come fitted with a pretty slick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. P250 models feature a choice of either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive while P300 models only come with the latter.
Jaguar finds a pretty fantastic balance between comfort and performance in the XF. The suspension is capable of delivering a comfortable ride while at the same time offering fantastic levels of agility. The steering feels equally well weighted, able to transition seemlessly between lightness at low speed and heaviness at high speed.

While not the most efficient vehicle in its class, the XF still does reasonably well according to estimates by the EPA. The rear-drive P250 is the most efficient model, by a decent margin. Opting for all-wheel drive means you lose around two miles per gallon. Going with the P300 means you lose a further mile per gallon overall.

The XF features an incredibly plush cabin

There are plenty of reasonable criticisms that can be laid against Jaguar, but one thing that you can’t really deny is that they look beautiful, both inside and out. The 2021 XF is no exception, with a cabin that is sleek, minimalist, and loaded with the highest quality materials and features. Instead of rolling in a mainstream sedan, the XF could have you relaxing in style.

The XF is one of the smaller sedans in the midsize sedan segment, but it still offers plenty of space for passengers. Even the tallest adults will find themselves plenty comfortable, even if they have been relegated to the back seats. The trunk, however, is an area where the Jag falls a little short, with other midsize luxury sedans featuring a more spacious cargo hold.
The cabin of the XF feels instantly luxurious. Everything from the design to the materials used shouts upscale. Every main touchpoint is covered in soft-touch materials. There is also a ton of storage space throughout the cabin in the form of multiple cubbies which add to the overall practicality. Things like heated seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and ambient interior lighting are all standard.
Infotainment and technology
Every Jaguar XF comes standard with an 11.4-inch infotainment screen mounted to the center of the dashboard. It features crisp graphics and sits behind curved glass to add to the premium feel. A fully-digital gauge display is also standard on all models. We appreciate that even with the prioritization of screens, there are still plenty of physical dials and buttons to control core functions in the cabin.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are, of course, standard here. More impressive is that every model comes with a pretty fantastic 12-speaker Meridian sound system. This system also features active noise cancelation to help keep the humdrum of the world outside of the cabin.
