Google Messages is getting a nice quality-of-life update with a simple Trash folder.
At the moment, deleting a conversation immediately removes it from Google Messages. This Trash folder acts as a temporary holding space in case you change your mind in the next month.
As such, you now “Move chat to trash,” with Google explaining how “Chat will be deleted after 30 days.” There’s also a note about how you can block a number.
Trash appears between Archived and Spam & blocked in the account menu. This list view notes how many messages are in each conversation. You can “Delete all” or quickly restore threads back to the main list.
We’re seeing this begin to roll out with beta version 20260306_02_RC00. It’s not yet widely available for testers.
