Corning has announced Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, a new upgrade to smartphone cover glass that promises protection against years of drops, and it’s launching first on the upcoming Motorola Razr Fold.
Gorilla Glass is what you’ll find on nearly every flagship-tier smartphone, and the latest iteration is aiming to protect even better against drops. Corning says that Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 is designed to handle repeat drops for years, with lab testing finding that the glass can stay intact through “at least” 20 repeated one-meter drops onto asphalt-like surfaces.

Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 also demonstrated substantial advantages in repeated drop scenarios. In Corning lab tests, the material survived at least 20 repeated drops from one meter onto surfaces simulating asphalt — another common surface where devices are dropped. In contrast, a competitive aluminosilicate glass typically failed on the first drop, underscoring the long-term durability benefits enabled by Corning’s glass ceramic technology.
We saw this for ourselves in action at MWC 2026, with Corning representatives dropping a test device using Gorilla Glass 3 Ceramic from a few feet in the air into a free-fall onto an asphalt-like surface. The device fell face first – arguably the scariest way to land – and came out unscathed. Corning said that the device had already taken several falls before that, too.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 will launch first on the Motorola Razr Fold, the new foldable that was detailed more in-depth at MWC 2026 this week.
Corning says that Razr Fold will be the “first smartphone available” with this new glass, but other brands are likely to follow not too far behind.
