February 26 is locked in for the Watch GT Runner 2 launch, and Huawei has started warming things up with a bunch of short teaser videos. The clips all lean in the same direction, marathon training, deeper performance stats and a watch that feels properly built for running. A special, Racing Edition variant of the device is also expected.
From what Huawei is saying so far, these are meant to be straight follow ups to the original Runner. The focus looks to be on structured training and long distance prep, something that can compete with the likes of the Garmin Forerunner.
Teasers point to intelligent marathon mode
The company has released several teaser clips across social channels in recent days, each highlighting a different part of the watch’s running focus. The most specific feature mentioned so far is an intelligent marathon mode.
Huawei describes this as a training focused tool designed to help runners prepare more effectively for long distance events. While technical details remain limited, the language suggests a system that adapts training guidance based on performance data rather than static plans. The emphasis is on preparation rather than race day tracking alone, which fits with Huawei’s recent push toward coaching style features inside Huawei Health.
The teasers also continue Huawei’s habit of linking product development to elite sport. The company has already confirmed that Watch GT Runner 2 was developed with input from marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge and his team, reinforcing the idea that this watch is aimed at runners who train with intent rather than casually logging miles.
Racing Legend edition aimed at serious runners
Alongside the standard model, Huawei is expected to introduce a Racing Legend special edition. This version has been mentioned in leaks and will probably be part of the February 26 announcement.
The Racing Legend edition is described as being designed with professional input for dedicated runners. Leaks point toward a more specialised and durable design, potentially positioning it closer to high end running watches. The idea appears to be a model that looks and feels more technical, without drifting into full outdoor watch territory.
One of the more unusual leak details is the suggestion of up to 22 strap variants associated with this edition. If accurate, that would give runners a wide range of fit and material options, possibly tuned for racing, training and daily wear.
What to expect from the hardware and positioning
Not that much is known about specifications, so any discussion of hardware remains cautious. Based on the original Watch GT Runner and Huawei’s current wearable platform, expectations include multi band GNSS, advanced heart rate tracking and strong battery life.
What matters more is positioning. The Watch GT Runner 2 is shaping up as a professional leaning running watch rather than a general GT model with added sports features. The Racing Legend edition in particular suggests Huawei wants to be taken seriously by runners who currently default to Garmin or similar brands.
Pricing and regional availability also remain unknown. Those details, along with full specs and software breakdowns, are expected to be confirmed in a few days time
