Huawei today held its “Now is Your Run” product launch event. At the event, Huawei launched its much-anticipated Watch GT Runner 2 smartwatch, which arrives as the sequel to 2021’s Watch GT Runner. As expected, the wearable brings performance improvements, top-notch positioning, improved features for sports enthusiasts, and health insights. Alongside the new smartwatch, Huawei has also introduced its latest pair of earbuds called the FreeBuds Pro 5.
Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 is the ultimate wearable for runners
Huawei has designed the Watch GT Runner 2 in collaboration with marathon legend and Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge and the DSM-Firmenich Running Team. One of the biggest highlights of the wearable is an Intelligent Marathon Mode, which helps athletes by guiding them while also tracking various performance features. Some of these include running power measurement, dynamic pace guidance, and smart refuel reminders.
The new Huawei Watch provides advanced positioning accuracy that plays a key role for professional runners. It has a new 3D floating antenna, which offers significant GPS accuracy even in challenging environments like runners or shaded areas. The device also has dual-band satellite positioning, which can track workouts without needing a paired phone.
What are the other features of the Watch GT Runner 2?
The Watch GT Runner 2 continues to feature a giant circular dial that sits inside a geometric frame. The wearable offers an ultra-slim and lightweight design, which delivers a more comfortable experience. Notably, it has an all-new AirDry feature, which uses a hollowed design for improved breathability of the strap to keep it dry.
The Watch GT Runner 2 comes with a 1.32-inch AMOLED display, placed inside a 43.5mm casing. It offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, the second-gen Kunlun Glass, a titanium casing, and a metal bezel. The smartwatch has a rated battery life of up to 14 days under light use. It reduces to 7 days under typical use and up to 32 hours in outdoor workout mode with precise positioning enabled.
As for the other features, the wearable has all the health tracking features. It has ECG monitoring, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress insights. You also get 5 ATM and IP69 rating, over 100 sports modes, support NFC payments, and Bluetooth calling. You can use it with Android and iOS devices.
Huawei also expands its audio portfolio with the FreeBuds Pro 5
Huawei has also expanded its range of audio devices with the FreeBuds Pro 5, which replaces the FreeBuds Pro 4. It comes with significant audio enhancements, apart from improved acoustic seal and increased comfort. It has an all-new dual driver acoustic system with an 11mm dynamic driver paired to a micro-planner tweeter. The company claims the wearable offers a cleaner and more precise bass performance, apart from delivering 45 percent less distortion compared to the previous generation.
The new buds have Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity and support various audio codecs like AAC, SBC, LDAC, and L2HC. Other highlights include dual device pairing, touch controls, IP57 rating (up from IP54), enhanced ANC, and a battery life of up to 33 hours with the case.
Coming to the pricing, the Watch GT Runner carries a price tag of around €399 (~$470). It comes in three colors: an all-black look and two tri-tone straps. As for the FreeBuds Pro 5, it will retail for €900 (around $1,060). Both will be available in major markets in the coming weeks.
