The Luna Glass AR glasses are designed for visually impaired users. These offer an enhanced image of the surroundings at night and in dark environments, enhancing their ability to see better in such challenging conditions. Rightly so, the company is claiming these to be the world’s first night vision glasses.
Luna Glass provides an enhanced image of the surroundings at night
The Luna Glass AR glasses enhance the brightness and contrast of images captured by the built-in camera in real-time. Using common augmented reality technology, the glasses project enhanced images in front of the wearer’s eyes using half mirrors. The mirrors apparently allow those with limited night vision to see reality and the enhanced image simultaneously.
That said, the ability to see better at night will vary by individual. The company’s CEO reportedly notes that the glasses could help people with as little as 10% vision remaining see better at night. This should enable the visually impaired to go out on their own safely for longer while allowing them to see details they usually can’t see.
There’s a waitlist
The glasses appear to use LentinAR’s PinTILT optical module, which is also present on Dynabook and NTT AR glasses. The Luna Glass reportedly lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours. You can also extend the runtime by connecting to a USB-C power bank. Lastly, the official website says that due to the overwhelming interest during the pilot production run of Luna Glass, it’s now creating a waitlist for the next version, which will apparently be “even better.”
The company is planning a limited production of 500 units, which will roll out internationally. The expected price of Luna Glass will be in the range of €3,500 (~$4,010) and €5,000 (~$5,730). The exact price depends on the selected options and configuration. You can join the waitlist by paying a nominal €50 (~$58) reservation fee.
