Mentra has introduced its first smart glasses, simply called the Mentra Live. Design-wise, these don’t stand out from the competition, but what makes Mentra’s smart glasses unique is that they employ an open-source OS with its own app store. You can download Mini Apps from here for various tasks, including a lot of livestreaming options.
Mentra Live smart glasses run on an open-source software
The MiniApp Store is apparently the first app store of its kind for smartglasses. It will be available on iOS and Android platforms through the Mentra app. Developers with the Software Developer Kit (SDK), which they had access to since early 2025, have been building apps for MentraOS. Many of them utilize the camera for live-streaming purposes. Mentra also claims its smart glasses are the only ones on the market that can livestream on any social media platform. More specifically, it lists Instagram, X, YouTube, and Twitch platforms.
Besides these, the company also explicitly talks about the “Chess Cheater” app, which will use the front-facing camera and AI to analyze your position and suggests next move. As for the smart glasses themselves, they’re powered by the MediaTek MTK8766 chip. The low-power MCU inside it will boost the battery life. Mentra is promising 12 hours from a single charge, with the 2,200mAh charging case extending that up to 50 hours.
They’re quite light at just 43 grams
There’s a 12MP camera in the arm with a 119-degree FoV, and this can record videos and take stills. It boasts three microphones and stereo speakers to make and receive calls or listen to music. As for the design, the wearable comes in a single black color option, and it’s among the lightest smart glasses, weighing just 43 grams.
The Mentra Live smart glasses will cost you $299 and are available to order from Mentra’s own online store. They’re also prescription-ready. Mentra is reportedly only releasing 1,000 pairs for the first batch, which will ship on February 15th. The second batch will include a limited number of glasses, which will be available to ship on February 28th.
