Obsidian, the excellent cross-platform notes app, is rolling out another helpful update. Obsidian 1.11 is now available for desktop and mobile platforms, with new widgets and design updates for mobile platforms, and some smaller changes for the desktop app.
First, there’s the update for Obsidian on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It now supports Markdown links in text and list properties, and if you use internal links in your documents, they are automatically updated when the destination file is moved or renamed. No one likes broken links, so that’s definitely a useful improvement. Invalid characters for filenames are also now removed when importing files, and renaming a file with those characters will show a warning.
The desktop version has two new settings to try out. You can now enable automatic plugin update checks, either every three days or after app updates, from Community Plugins > Automatically check for plugin updates. Another option lets you choose what Obsidian shows at startup: either your last opened files, a new note, a specific note, or your daily note. You can find it at Files & links > Default file to open.
The changes to the mobile apps are much more exciting. There’s a pile of new widgets for creating a new note, opening a specific note, searching notes, opening the daily note, and opening Obsidian. Each of those are available as home screen widgets on Android, and on iPhone and iPad, they can be added to the lock screen or control center.
The Android app also has new app shortcuts for opening a note or a daily note, and there’s a new quick settings tile. On iPhone and iPad, new Siri integrations are available for capturing with Obsidian, opening the daily note, and searching for notes. The new widgets and shortcuts make it easier to quickly jump to your most important notes, without finding them in the app each time.
Obsidian says it has also redesigned the entire mobile app, intended to “improve both the editing and reading experience.” There’s a new sidebar navigation or switching tabs and actions, haptics on toggles and checkboxes, and a double-tap gesture for switching from reading mode to editing mode. Android devices will also now use the ‘Google Sans Flex’ font when available—the same font used in many of Google’s own applications.

This update also comes with a laundry list of bug fixes for both desktop and mobile platforms. External links inside text and list properties will open correctly in the browser, attachments now show the full file path in graph view, iCloud synchronization issues were fixed, and many layout problems on mobile platforms have been resolved, to name a few changes.
You can download Obsidian from the official website, and if you have the desktop version already installed, you can check for updates from Settings > General.
