The wearable health market welcomes a new contender: PIN Pulse, a smart ring designed to monitor several advanced biometrics from the finger. This device attempts to bridge the gap between basic fitness tracking and more complex metabolic and cardiovascular monitoring. Among its main highlights are the non-invasive monitoring of blood pressure and its glucose risk insights.
PIN Pulse: Integrating blood pressure and glucose risk in a smart ring
Developed by Sudeshna Naik and Hrishekesh Patil, the hardware consists of a titanium shell weighing approximately 3 grams. It uses a mix of motion data, skin temperature tracking, and multi-wavelength optical sensors. This sensor combo lets the device collect 16 different health metrics. Then, these metrics are analyzed by a localized AI system to find long-term patterns instead of just daily scores.
The PIN Pulse also stands out for its ability to provide on-demand blood pressure and blood glucose risk assessment insights. Furthermore, it does it non-invasively. It uses biometric signal analysis through a companion mobile app. These specific measurements also have guided pre-checks to ensure data consistency.
Plus, the ring can monitor respiratory health and heart metrics. It keeps track of your blood oxygen levels (SpO₂), heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV). These sensors work together to check how well you sleep and detect potential breathing problems, such as signs of sleep apnea. The ring also watches for changes in temperature, which can be used to keep track of women’s health stress levels and hormone levels.
The wearable is water-resistant up to 5 ATM and has a battery life of about seven days. It can be set up to automatically record data as often as every five minutes, and it can charge wirelessly. The system works on a one-time purchase model, so users can access all of the software’s features and AI-driven insights without having to pay a monthly fee.
The product is currently entering the market via a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for $249. However, it will have an MSRP of $499 for general availability.
