An update allows users to hot-swap between Gemini, ChatGPT, and DeepSeek within a single device
In a significant move for open AI in hardware, Rokid has announced that its smart glasses are the first in the world to natively integrate Google’s Gemini AI.
The update transforms the Rokid Glasses into a multi-model hub, allowing users to switch between Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Alibaba’s Qwen depending on their specific needs or geographic location.
This approach to AI models is a direct challenge to Meta, whose Ray-Ban glasses are locked exclusively to the proprietary Llama ecosystem.

However, Rokid’s device-to-cloud architecture enables low-latency switching; for example, a user could utilize Gemini for complex English-language research queries and immediately swap to DeepSeek or Qwen for better localized Chinese translation or regional context.
Beyond simple voice queries, the Gemini integration enables multi-modal interactions. Users can use the built-in camera to show the AI what they are looking at, receiving real-time information or translation through the glasses’ head-up display.

The ‘plays-nice’ smart glasses
By bridging the gap between US and Chinese AI developers, Rokid is positioning itself as the inclusive alternative to walled garden wearables.
For international travelers or professionals working across multiple languages, the ability to choose the most accurate AI engine for a specific task—directly from their field of vision—is a powerful differentiator in a market that is rapidly moving away from simple notification-delivery.
Whether it helps Rokid truly break through to the average consumer, though, remains to be seen—especially with household names like Google and Samsung preparing Android XR and Galaxy Glasses, respectively.
