Samsung, this year, launched its latest true wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro. These are its flagship annual refresh that brings some significant design and hardware improvements over the predecessors. Besides these two, references to a new “Galaxy Buds Able” have now been discovered in Samsung’s Galaxy Buds app. And, as things stand, there’s no straight answer for what these actually are.
Galaxy Buds app strings reveal mysterious new “Galaxy Buds Able”
Folks at Android Authority digging through Samsung’s Galaxy Buds app have found strings for a new Galaxy Buds Able. What’s interesting is that this sits next to the recent Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro. While the current line of Galaxy Buds had internal codenames based on composers, the Galaxy Buds Able codename appears to just be “able.” This is an interesting break from the usual pattern that Samsung follows.
Furthermore, Samsung follows the SM-R numbering for its Galaxy Buds models, including the budget model. For instance, the Buds 4/Buds 4 are SM-R540/SM-R640, the Galaxy Buds Core are SM-R410. The new Galaxy Buds Able have the SM-U600 model identifier. Samsung apparently doesn’t have any SM-U devices in its ecosystem. The Galaxy phones usually end with a U for their US-bound variants. For example, SM-942U for the Galaxy S26.
The model number mismatch
Then there’s another interesting titbit. The Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro use shortened labels like “Buds4” and “Buds4 Pro.” However, the new earbuds appear as “Galaxy Able” rather than “Buds Able.” It’s possible that “Able” is just a code name, and Samsung may not have settled on how it wants to market this particular model, yet.
It wouldn’t be completely surprising if the Galaxy Buds Able have an accessibility angle to them. Theories on the web point to Samsung working on an OTC hearing aid. But then, they are just theories. We won’t know what Galaxy Buds Able truly are until more details emerge.
