The spread of germs can stem from the bathroom, as they can sit on anything, ranging from the toilet to the sink and the doorknob.
If you’re looking to keep your home clean, it should start in the bathroom. Of course, many people want to keep their bathroom clean because they’ve worked hard on making it a nice room in their home. If you’re in the process of upgrading your bathroom, know that a full renovation will set you back quite a bit. First, consider upgrades rather than renovations to see if you can turn your bathroom around.

A bidet attachment can make your toilet feel fancy

A bidet is all about cleanliness. A standalone bidet is a separate contraption that is often right next to the toilet that you get up and move over to. Upon sitting on the bidet, it will spray a concentrated stream of water into your nether regions to clean you. Most bidets let you adjust the intensity of the water, so you can customize it to your liking.
But installing a standalone bidet in anyone’s home is likely to be costly, as you may need a plumber to do it properly. If you don’t want a standalone option, which many people also may not have room for, there are a few choices you can make. You can opt for a bidet seat, which replaces your original toilet seat and features a nozzle that extends from a compartment when you want to use the bidet feature. It usually has a remote control that controls the temperature and intensity of the water. Many of them also have a drying feature to help you when you’re finished.
I’ve been a big fan of the bidet seat, which was simple to install, and it has been a game-changer. Being able to feel cleaner almost immediately upon finishing going to the bathroom is a great feeling. It has provided a complete clean every time and helped us reduce the amount of toilet paper we consume. True bidets have deodorizing powers as well, if you’re worried about your home smelling particularly bad after using the bathroom.
There are electric bidet seats and non-electric options, so make sure you are buying one that is best suited to your bathroom setup.
You can also find bidet attachments that fit your current toilet seat, making it easier for you. These include a water spray that you’re able to sit over and spray yourself down with after you’ve finished using the toilet.
Upgrade your shower head

I grew up in a household where we had regular shower heads that were screwed into the wall, and you could adjust the head slightly but not much. This forced you to shower in a specific area, contorting your body to wherever the stream was shooting.
As an adult, I made the decision that I wanted a shower head with a wand in it. I wanted to have the ability to adjust the angle more easily and even take it off and hold it to clean myself all over. Also, I have a Golden Retriever, and giving him a bath at home is much simpler with a shower wand.
This may not be the preference of some people, as it does provide a specific look in the shower. Also, there are many kinds of shower heads, so I’m not saying that you specifically need to pick one with a wand. There are waterfall ones that are considered an upgrade to a traditional shower head that people really enjoy.
If you’re looking to change the bathroom and want to make the shower feel a bit different, a shower head is a good option. I’ve put shower heads with wands in both of my bathrooms and couldn’t be happier.
The lighting can make a huge difference

Everybody has their own opinions about lighting. You may not even realize that you have an opinion on it until you see an option that you like better than the one you currently have. Let’s say you’re walking down the lighting aisle at a hardware store and your eyes come across a completely different style of light fixture than what you have at home. You’re going to take note of that and imagine what it looks like in a room you want to replace a fixture in.
That is often the case in the bathroom, because lighting in the bathroom is important. It doesn’t have to be smart lighting or anything like that. You just want good light so you can see what you’re doing there, more than in many other rooms. If you’re looking at yourself in the mirror, which is often in the bathroom, you’re going to want the best lighting possible. That’s why the fixtures either above the mirror or on the ceiling matter so much.
People tend to have strong opinions on the decorating preferences of people who owned a home before them. Either they love the way they designed the house, adding to its charm, or they’re able to see the potential behind some of the unique decisions the previous owners made.
Making changes to the bathroom lighting is a surefire way to make it feel your own and look much less cluttered. Whether the previous option was too dim or just not your style, you can upgrade it at a lower cost than redoing the entire bathroom. Of course, if you do want to go the full renovation route, changing the lighting is probably going to be a part of that anyway. If you’re able to get by with only swapping out light fixtures, you’re saving yourself money.
A toddler seat can make a big difference

This is not something that every person has to deal with, but I wanted to share my own experience. After teaching my daughter about potty training, we used a separate small potty that sat on the floor where she sat and did her business. As a parent, you then need to empty that potty into a toilet to get rid of the contents.
This isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it does take some effort and cleaning on your part afterward, on top of the wiping that has to take place. Regular adult toilet seats are too wide for toddlers, as they can slip into the toilet. Installing a specialized potty-training toddler seat involves attaching a smaller seat to the bigger seat.
This makes it widely usable for the entire household, as adults can flip up the toddler seat and flip it down when their toddler needs to use the toilet. This may not be considered much of an “upgrade,” but for my purposes it saved a lot of time by eliminating the need to clean out the separate small potty. I don’t miss the transfer portion of the exercise, especially when it was number 2.
You can change your bathroom with some minor adjustments
Keeping your home and yourself cleaner usually focuses on your home’s bathrooms. By making small adjustments, like installing a better showerhead or a bidet attachment on your toilet, you can make significant changes without spending a lot. For every person, the aesthetic is going to be customized, so you want to make sure it looks good to you. But these are some universal options for improving the bathroom setup.
