This year at CES 2026, we expect AI to take the center stage. But apart from AI, wearables are the next hottest thing. In 2025, we’ve seen companies like Meta push its wearables rather aggressively. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that ASUS wants in on the action. The company has taken the wraps off its latest pair of smart glasses in the form of the ASUS ROG XREAL R1, which was made in collaboration with the folks at XREAL.
ASUS ROG XREAL R1, a portable gaming powerhouse
The ASUS ROG XREAL R1 is packing some serious hardware that gamers will appreciate. According to the company, these are the world’s first gaming glasses to feature a 240Hz Micro-OLED display with Full HD resolution at 1920×1080. That’s a pretty big deal for competitive gamers who need buttery smooth visuals without any motion blur.
The glasses are capable of projecting a massive 171-inch virtual screen at a 4-meter distance. This lets you turn your ROG Ally handheld into a giant display that you can take anywhere. It also boasts a 57-degree field of view that covers about 95% of your focused viewing area.
The glasses only weigh 91 grams, which is surprisingly light considering its features. ASUS has partnered with Bose for the audio system, which includes spatial sound that helps you pinpoint your enemies in games. The lenses also sport electrochromic tinting that automatically adjusts based on where you’re looking. You can also manually adjust the tinting across three levels.
For tracking, the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 supports 3 degrees of freedom. There’s Anchor Mode, which locks the virtual screen in a fixed position in physical space. Then there’s Follow Mode, which keeps the screen centered as you move your head around. The 3ms motion-to-photon latency means everything will feel snappy and responsive.
The glasses can connect through the included ROG Control Dock. It features DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports. ROG Ally owners can plug directly into the handheld via USB-C for a plug-and-play experience.
Who needs the ROG XREAL R1 and when can you get them
For those shopping for a pair of smart glasses like Meta’s Ray-Bans, then maybe these aren’t the glasses for you. Instead, the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 is aimed at gamers who want a more immersive gaming experience. They’re also great for anyone living in smaller spaces where a giant monitor or TV isn’t practical.
ASUS hasn’t announced official pricing yet, but the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 is expected to launch in the first half of 2026. Based on similar premium AR gaming glasses on the market, it won’t come cheap. However, for the features you’re getting, like a pair of 240Hz Micro-OLED displays and Bose spatial audio, it’s honestly not too bad.
