Massachusetts court grants Whoop a preliminary injunction against Lexqi
Whoop has secured a major legal victory in its battle to protect its screenless fitness tracker design, with the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts granting a preliminary injunction against Chinese manufacturer Lexqi.
The decision effectively bans the sale of Lexqi’s tracker in the United States, ruling that the brand’s device was “almost identical” to the protected trade dress of products like the Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG, which feature designs defined by continuous fabric straps and faceless modules.
Whoop filed the lawsuit in September 2025, claiming that Lexqi’s lookalike was causing irreparable harm to its brand and confusing consumers who associate the minimalist, screen-free look specifically with Whoop’s ecosystem.
The judge agreed, noting that Whoop’s design is “non-functional and distinctive,” meaning it isn’t merely shaped to function; it’s shaped to be a Whoop. Lexqi must now halt all US sales while the litigation proceeds, giving Whoop a decisive advantage.
“Whoop members trust us with their data and rely on our technology to make meaningful decisions about their health and performance,” said Jason Lynch, Whoop’s Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Legal Officer.

He added that protecting the company’s intellectual property is critical to maintaining that trust and ensuring competitors innovate rather than imitate.
An industry trend
That echoes the sentiments of another key wearable market leader, Oura, which has spent the last couple of years fighting and, thus far, succeeding in defending its IP against rival smart ring brands.
In 2025, the Finnish company secured a judgment against Ultrahuman, resulting in an import ban on the Indian brand’s smart ring. Last November, it also filed a lawsuit against Reebok, Nexxbase, Samsung, and Amazfit.
The Whoop vs. Lexqi case will continue through the courts over the coming months, but, for now, the former has succeeded in keeping a lookalike rival off US shelves.
