A smart ring does a lot of things that other wearables like a smartwatch can, just without a display. Some might prefer this form factor because it has a smaller footprint, can be fashionable, and most importantly, it can be more discreet-looking. However, the lack of a display means you’ll have to constantly go to the app to make changes or tweaks or do certain things. Luckily for Luna Ring owners, the company has introduced a new feature called Luna Voice.
Luna Ring can now be controlled with your voice
According to the company, the smart ring can now be controlled using your voice. This means that if you’d rather not fiddle with apps, you can use your voice to ask the Luna Ring for certain things. This includes questions about your health, logging their meals, or taking down notes. Luna also claims that users can have “real, contextual conversations” about their sleep, recovery, and more.
Amit Khatri, Founder at Luna, says, “This marks a fundamental shift in what a wearable is. The Luna Ring no longer just measures the body. It understands context, connects daily behavior with biometrics, and communicates back in a way that fits naturally into real life.”
What’s interesting about this feature is that Luna would be the first company to introduce a wearable that you can actually talk to. Yes, we know that smartwatches like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch support voice commands. However, in those cases, it’s more like you’re issuing commands, rather than having a conversation.
We haven’t tried Luna Voice out for ourselves yet, but assuming it works as advertised, this could be a game-changer.
Some limitations you should take note of
That being said, don’t get too excited just yet. For starters, users on iOS need to go through Siri to access the Luna Voice AI. However, this limitation is an Apple thing and not really Luna’s fault.
Secondly, you might have heard of an ongoing lawsuit between Oura and other smart ring makers, including Luna. The lawsuit is over alleged patent infringements. As a result, Nexxbase, the maker of Luna Ring, has agreed to stay out of the US market. This means that customers in the US won’t be able to get their hands on the Luna Ring and take advantage of this new feature.
However, if you are living outside of the US where the Luna Ring is available, then perhaps this could be a feature worth checking out.
