Suunto’s turning 90 this year, and they’re celebrating with a special edition of their latest adventure watch. The Suunto Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition drops on March 10 and mixes their current top model with a design that nods back to one of their all-time classics.
A birthday watch with some serious throwback style
This isn’t just a fancy colour swap. The new Vertical 2 Limited Edition leans into Suunto’s past. It takes its design cues from the old-school Vector, which anyone who’s been into outdoor gear for a while will probably remember. You get the same orange and black tones, with a bit of that classic yellow mixed in to really nail the retro feel.
Suunto Vertical 2 Limited Edition
Under the hood, it’s still the full-fat Vertical 2 Titanium. That means dual-band GPS, offline maps, proper battery life and all the sports modes you’d expect from Suunto’s current flagship. But now it’s wrapped in a look that pays tribute to where the brand started, back in 1936. They’re apparently only making 1,936 of these, as a nod to the founding year.

The Vector gets its moment again
The Suunto Vector was a big deal when it came out in 1998. It packed an altimeter, barometer and compass into one wrist-worn device, which was pretty cutting-edge at the time. It set the tone for what Suunto would become known for – gear built for real outdoor use, not just fancy features for show.
Before that, Suunto had already launched the first proper diving compass back in the 60s, and by the late 90s, they were releasing dive computers in watch form. The early 2000s brought GPS models like the X9 and G9, and they were offering offline maps and heart-rate-based training tools well before that stuff became the norm.
This new drop feels like a nod to all of that. It doesn’t change anything under the hood, but it brings the brand’s history front and centre.
Made in Finland, powered by clean energy
The new watch is built in Finland using 100 percent renewable energy. Suunto’s been leaning more into sustainability lately, and this anniversary year seems like a way to highlight that as well.
Alongside the watch, they’ll be running events and meetups throughout 2026, exhibitions, challenges, all that kind of stuff. It’s a way to bring the community into the celebration and share the history of a brand that’s been at this since the days of liquid filled compasses.
The price is set at €799, and it’ll be sold through suunto.com. It’s a limited run, so once those units are gone, that’s it. Probably one for the collectors or long time Suunto fans.
Staying true to the path
The company’s name literally means path in Finnish, and it’s stuck pretty close to that idea over the decades. It was started by Tuomas Vohlonen, who came up with a better, more stable compass design back in the 30s. After he passed away in 1939, his wife Elli took over and helped shape the brand into what it became, focused on clear design, function over fluff, and gear that can actually take a beating.
That mindset is still baked into what Suunto’s doing now. They’ve said they’re planning to keep pushing on navigation, endurance features and deeper physiological tools. But at the same time, they’re not letting go of where they came from.
This 90th anniversary edition feels like a solid way of bringing those two things together.
