While Google’s Nest ecosystem delivers a really good experience, no one ever said it was cheap. Following last year’s launch of a 2K Nest Doorbell, Amazon’s Blink is stepping up with an upgraded model that features the same camera quality, but for just $40.
Announced today, the new Blink Wired Doorbell 2K+ is a video doorbell that supports 2K video, just like Google’s latest. This is the first time Amazon’s Blink brand has produced a wired-only doorbell, and it’s available for pre-order now.
Amazon says the wired doorbell will cost $39.99, but it’s listed for $49.99 right now. A battery-powered variant jumps up to $69.99.
Besides the resolution bump, Amazon says this new model also features improved dynamic range and support for AI-powered smart alerts that describe what is happening in a motion event (it requires a paid subscription) – similar to Google Home’s Gemini-powered event descriptions.
Amazon says:
In the U.S., the Blink Battery Doorbell 2K+ and Blink Wired Doorbell 2K+ introduce a smart alert refresh with cloud-based smart video descriptions (with a Blink AI Basic or Blink AI Plus subscription*). This feature provides concise summaries of motion events, helping customers quickly understand what’s happening at their front door without needing to watch the entire clip.
For example, instead of simply receiving a motion notification, customers can receive a description summarizing what occurred—making it faster and easier to stay informed about activity at home.
Google’s only 2K Nest Doorbell is the wired 3rd gen release, with no battery option available. The wired one costs $179.
