Ananya Raj was born on 22 October 1998 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and moved to Mumbai with her family when she was two years old. She grew up in Mumbai and pursued her education at the University of Mumbai. From an early age she was drawn to dance and performing arts, participating in school and college plays before attending an acting school to prepare for a career in films.

Ananya began her film career with the Hindi movie 7 Hours to Go, released in 2016. She continued to work across genres and industries, appearing in the thriller The Final Exit (2017) and making a noted entry into horror with Ghost (2019), in which she played the character Sonia. She also worked in music videos for major labels such as T-Series, Zee Music and Times Music.

Her work extended into South Indian cinema. She made her Telugu debut with Thaggede Le (also listed as Thaggedhe Le) in 2022, directed by Srinivas Raju.
