Early life and background

Bastiaan Franciscus Wilhelmus de Leede was born on 15 November 1999 in Nootdorp, Netherlands. He grew up in a cricketing family: his father, Tim de Leede, represented the Netherlands in One-Day Internationals and played in multiple 50-over World Cups, and his cousin Babette de Leede is a wicketkeeper-batter for the Netherlands women’s team. Bas spent part of his childhood playing football as well as cricket and later completed studies through an Open University in the Netherlands.

Career

De Leede progressed through Dutch domestic ranks and made his List A debut for a KNCB XI on tour in Zimbabwe in September 2017. He recorded a first-class debut for the Netherlands later that year, appearing against Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup.

International recognition came in 2018. De Leede was named as a replacement in the Netherlands squad for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier and soon afterwards made his Twenty20 International debut on 12 June 2018 against Ireland.
